Amazing facts about the BAPS Sadhus.

Brahma Swarup Shri Yogiji Maharaj.                    

HE wished to build a team of Sadhus for the BAPS having a higher educational background to spread the message of Bhagavan Swaminarayan across all the five continents.

Disciplines for Sadhus -  the 5 vows.

Every Swaminarayan Sadhu has the ideals of 'Panch Vartman' to observe the five vows by thought, word, and deed.                                                                                                                                                                           

1. NISHKAM (Non-lust)                                                                                  

Lifelong celibacy. Not to marry. Not to keep any contact with females. Not to physically touch, write or talk to, intentionally look at, or even think of women. To overcome all objects and desires that are sexual.                                                                                                                                           

2. NIRLOBH (Non-greed)                                                                               

Not to possess or have any desire for possessions. Not to physically touch money, or ask anyone to hoard money on one's behalf. Not to own property nor pine for any type of worldly objects. 

                                                                                   

3.NISNEH (Non-attachment)                                                                          

Not to become attached to any place or person. To give up all family ties. Not to meet, talk or write to family members. To look upon all with an equal eye.                                                                                                                                                                                          

4. NISWAD(Non-taste)                                                                                  

Not to indulge in food for the sake of taste or have special preferences. To mix all food items in a wooden bowl and add water before eating.                                                                                                                                   

5.NIRMAN(Non-ego)                                                                                       

Not to be egotistic. To overcome 'I' -ness. To become humble and remain a servant of one and all. To respect all and bless those who bruise, honor those who hurt and pray for those who persecute.

Yogiji Maharaj's above wish was fulfilled by his disciple and successor Brahma Swarup Shri Pramukh Swami Maharaj.                                                                                            

Here follow the brief details of the educational background of the BAPS Sadhus as per the record of 2016. It is worth noting that some of them who left home to become Sadhu and adorn the saffron for the Social Service was an only child to their parents. The total number of such Sadhus is 121.

‌1. Pujya Bhadreshdas Swami is a scholar in Sanskrit language and honored with degrees like - Shad-darshnacharya, D.lit., Mahamahopadhyay, Prasthantrayi Bhashykar.            

2. Pujya Shrutiprakashdas Swami is honored with degrees like - "Vedant Aacharya and D.lit.

3. Pujya Prabhucharan Swami has earned the degree of Master of Arts in 13 subjects.

4. Pujya Atma Swaroop Swami is an engineering graduate from the prestigious Indian Institute of Engineering.  

5. Pujya Param Vivek Swami has earned B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Oxford University. 

6. Pujya Param Tatva Swami (Mst in Theology (Oxon), Ph.D., Pujya Mangalnidhidas Swami has qualified from the Harvard University & Pujya Virat Swaroopdas Swami has qualified from the George Town University.  

Bottom Line: 

All these youngsters on completion of their education at the World Class Universities like Oxford, Harvard, I.I.T., etc. and earning the highest degrees in the various field decided to let go luxurious lifestyle, walk out of their comfort zone and move to India. Why? 

Because to learn the 'Brahmavidhya', which is something different not taught elsewhere at any other university or college except India & far more superior than the rest of the knowledge and skills.
